Upstate New York

Outside of New York City, some of New York’s most famous destinations are probably familiar to you- Niagara Falls, the Catskills and the Hamptons among them. Some lesser known, but equally fun things to explore when living in New York State include: The Thousand Islands, or Seaways, a collection of 2,000 islands that can be explored by rented boat or ferry ride. Many of these islands feature privately built castles, or come during the 10 day long Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days, where you can practice being a pirate or fending off invaders on one of the islands! You can also visit Allegheny State park, the largest of NY’s state parks with 65000 acres of forests and over 70 miles of trails. In the Rochester Area, enjoy the unique “Strong Museum of Play”, dedicated to all things play, or the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Albany is home to both historic government buildings and sites, as well as a fantastic Children’s Museum of Science. Wherever you live in New York State, there is a weekend adventure to be had right in your backyard.
